Happy February! Today I want to shed some light on a healthy coffee alternative. Just three or four months ago, if you had asked me to give up coffee, I would've laughed in your face. I was addicted, and not a day went by when I didn't have a least one cup of coffee. I love everything there is to love about coffee, but couldn't stand the dependency that I created from drinking it so much. Switching to a healthier alternative was one of the best choices I've ever made.
Coffee in the health world gets mixed reviews. Some will argue that it's a great mood booster and improves liver and heart function. There's also evidence that shows that coffee can have negative effects too like ruining your sleep pattern and increasing your anxiety. The cons may outweigh the pros, but why not get the same benefits (and more) without all side effects.
Below are a few reasons to give up coffee- or at least consider something new:
Drinking coffee increases the stress hormones in your system which leads to inflammation and anxiety
The acidity from coffee can cause indigestion and stomach pain
It's difficult to have consistent satisfying sleep if you're dependent on coffee
Caffeine creates changes in estrogen levels and changes our brain's chemistry
